Integrates with Obsidian vaults through the Local REST API plugin to provide advanced note management, search, batch operations, graph analysis, and workflow automation capabilities.
  1. Install the "Obsidian REST API" Plugin in Obsidian

    • In Obsidian, go to "Settings".
    • Navigate to "Community Plugins".
    • Use the search bar to search for "Obsidian REST API".
    • Click "Install" and then "Enable" the plugin.
  2. Obtain Your API Key, Host, and Port

    • After enabling the plugin, click into its settings (usually found in the sidebar under installed community plugins).
    • Locate the "API Key" field and copy the displayed key (it will look like a string of letters and numbers).
    • Note the "Host" (default: 127.0.0.1) and "Port" (default: 27124). If these are not changed, you can use the defaults.
  3. Locate the Path to Your Vault

    • In Obsidian, open the vault you want to use with the MCP server.
    • Right-click on the vault in your operating system's file browser and select "Copy path" or manually browse to the vault folder to get its absolute path.
  4. Add Environment Variables in the FastMCP Connection Interface

    • In the FastMCP connection interface, click your ready-made button labeled "Install Now" for this server.

    • When prompted to fill in environment values, enter the following:

      • OBSIDIAN_API_KEY: Paste the API key you retrieved from the plugin.
      • OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH: Paste the absolute path to your vault (e.g., /Users/yourname/Obsidian/MyVault).
      • (Optional) OBSIDIAN_HOST: Enter your host if different from 127.0.0.1.
      • (Optional) OBSIDIAN_PORT: Enter your port if different from 27124.
      • (Optional) INCLUDE_TOOLS: Enter specific tool names you want to be available, separated by commas, or leave this empty to enable all tools.
  5. Save and Continue

    • Complete the rest of the FastMCP server connection process as prompted.

You must fill in at least OBSIDIAN_API_KEY and OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH for the server to work.
