Integrates with Obsidian vaults through the Local REST API plugin to enable advanced search with flexible filters, complete note content retrieval, and vault structure browsing for knowledge discovery and analysis workflows.
  1. Install the Obsidian Local REST API plugin

    • Open your Obsidian vault.
    • Go to Settings → Community plugins.
    • Search for and install "Obsidian Local REST API".
  2. Enable and configure the plugin

    • In Obsidian Settings, locate the "Local REST API" plugin.
    • Enable the plugin.
    • Review the plugin's configuration section:
      • Make sure it is enabled.
      • Note the API URL (default is https://localhost:27124).
      • If authentication is enabled, copy the API key generated or set.
  3. Locate your API URL and API Key

    • The API URL is typically displayed in the plugin config (default: https://localhost:27124).
    • If you enabled API key authentication, your API key will be provided here. If you didn’t set one, you might need to enable and refresh the plugin settings to generate or copy the key.
  4. Fill the FastMCP connection interface

    • Press the "Install Now" button as provided by your interface.
    • When prompted in the FastMCP connection interface, fill in these values:
      • OBSIDIAN_API_URL: Enter the API URL from step 3 (e.g., https://localhost:27124).
      • OBSIDIAN_API_KEY: Enter the API key you obtained from the plugin configuration (leave blank if you are not using authentication).
  5. Finish and confirm

    • Proceed with the rest of the setup as directed by your platform.
    • You should now be able to connect your MCP server to your Obsidian vault.
