Create a Google Cloud Project
- Go to Google Cloud Console.
- Create a new project or select an existing one.
- In the project dashboard, enable the "Custom Search API" (use the APIs & Services page to find and enable it).
Generate a Google API Key
- In the sidebar, navigate to “APIs & Services” → “Credentials”.
- Click on “Create Credentials” → “API Key”.
- A dialog will show your new API key. Copy this key for later use.
Create a Google Programmable Search Engine
- Go to Google Programmable Search Engine.
- Click "Get started" or "Add" to begin creating a new search engine.
- For "Sites to search," enter
*(asterisk) to search the entire web, or specify certain domains as desired. - Complete the setup and copy the generated “Search Engine ID”.
Fill in Environment Values in FastMCP
- Open the FastMCP connection interface.
- Click the “Install Now” button for Google Search MCP.
- When prompted for environment values, paste in the following (from previous steps):
- API Key (from step 2)
- Search Engine ID (from step 3)
- Save or confirm your configuration to complete the integration.
(Optional) Increase Quota by Adding More Keys
- To increase your daily search quota, repeat steps 1–3 to create additional projects and keys.
- Add each API Key and Search Engine ID via the FastMCP connection interface.
Your Google Search MCP server is now connected and ready to use!
