Integrates with Google Custom Search Engine API to enable web searches for fact-checking, research, and content generation with current data.
  1. Create a Google Cloud Project

    • Go to Google Cloud Console.
    • Click "Select a project" and then "New Project" to create a project (e.g., name it "Claude CSE").
  2. Enable the Custom Search API

    • Ensure your new project is selected in the console.
    • Use the search bar at the top to look for "Custom Search API".
    • Click on the Custom Search API result, then click "Enable".
  3. Create an API Key

    • After enabling the API, in the left sidebar, go to "APIs & Services" > "Credentials".
    • Click “Create credentials” and select “API key”.
    • Copy the new API key. You will need to enter this in the FastMCP connection interface as API_KEY.
  4. Create a Custom Search Engine

    • Open Programmable Search Engine.
    • Click "Add" to set up a new search engine.
    • For "Sites to search", enter any domain (e.g., google.com). You can adjust this later.
    • Name your search engine (the name doesn't affect the SERVICE_NAME setting).
    • Click “Create”.
  5. Configure the Search Engine for Web Search

    • On the next screen, click “Control Panel”.
    • To allow searching the full web, look for the "Sites to search" section and select "Search the entire web but emphasize included sites".
  6. Get the Engine ID

    • In your search engine's control panel, find the "Search engine ID" in the Overview section.
    • Copy this value; it will be used as ENGINE_ID in FastMCP.
  7. (Optional) Adjust Additional Settings

    • You can set optional environment variables in FastMCP for region/language preference as desired (see README for options such as COUNTRY_REGION, RESULT_LANGUAGE, etc.).
  8. Fill in the FastMCP Connection Interface

    • In the FastMCP server setup, use your “Install Now” button.
    • Enter your API_KEY and ENGINE_ID values in the connection interface fields.
    • Other fields can be left empty or filled according to your needs.
    • Save or continue to complete the setup.

You have now obtained and entered the required ENV values for Google Custom Search Engine MCP Server.
