Sign up or Log in to Perplexity AI
- Go to https://www.perplexity.ai and create an account if you don’t already have one. Otherwise, log in to your existing account.
Navigate to the Perplexity AI API Settings
- In your user dashboard, locate the section for “API” or “API Keys.” This is typically found under account settings or a similar option.
Create a New API Key
- Click the option to create or generate a new API key.
- If prompted, assign a name to the key for identification.
- Adjust any permissions or scopes as needed for your use case (if configurable).
Copy Your API Key
- After the key is generated, copy the entire string. You will need this for configuration.
- Be careful: the API key is usually shown only once at creation for security reasons.
Add the API Key in FastMCP
- In the FastMCP connection interface, click the "Install Now" button for the Perplexity MCP server.
- When prompted, fill in the required field for
PERPLEXITY_API_KEYwith your copied key value. - (Optional) You may also specify
PERPLEXITY_MODELif you wish to use a different model. If left blank, it will default to "sonar". Refer to the Perplexity AI model documentation for available models.
Save and Complete Installation
- Confirm your entries and save.
- The MCP server is now ready for use in the FastMCP environment.
