Integrates with the X API v2 to enable post, search, and reply to tweets.

Step-by-Step Instructions to Obtain and Set ENV Values for X (Twitter) MCP Server

1. Obtain Twitter (X) API Credentials

You must have an approved Twitter Developer account. Applying for access includes wait times and costs $200/month minimum (Basic tier).

  1. Visit the Twitter Developer Portal.
  2. Sign in with your Twitter account, or create one if needed.
  3. Apply for a developer account if you do not have one. Choose “Elevated” access and fill out the required forms (describe intended use, etc.).
  4. Once approved, create a new project and an "App" within the project.
  5. From your app dashboard, locate your API Key and API Key Secret.
  6. On the "Keys and Tokens" tab, generate an Access Token and Access Token Secret. If tokens are not shown, generate them using the “Generate” or “Regenerate” buttons.

You need the following four values:

  • API Key
  • API Secret Key
  • Access Token
  • Access Token Secret

2. (Optional) Obtain SocialData.tools API Key (Enables Enhanced Tools)

For additional analytics and research tools, a SocialData.tools API key is optional.

  1. Go to https://socialdata.tools.
  2. Sign up for an account and log in.
  3. Find your account dashboard, and locate or generate your API Key.

3. Fill in the FastMCP Connection Interface

Once you have the required keys:

  1. Click the Install Now button to start the integration process.

  2. In the FastMCP connection interface, enter the following values:

    • X_API_KEY — Paste your Twitter API Key
    • X_API_SECRET — Paste your Twitter API Secret Key
    • X_ACCESS_TOKEN — Paste your Twitter Access Token
    • X_ACCESS_TOKEN_SECRET — Paste your Twitter Access Token Secret

    (Optional for extra analytics)

    • SOCIALDATA_API_KEY — Paste your SocialData.tools API Key
  3. Submit or save to connect the server with your account.

Notes:

  • The Twitter credentials above are required. SocialData.tools API key is optional but strongly recommended for enhanced research and analytics.
  • If you see errors about API tier limitations, review your Twitter Developer Portal access level and consider applying for higher-tier access if your use case requires it.

Done! Your MCP server is now connected to X (Twitter) and, optionally, SocialData.tools.
