Sign up for a Brave Search API account
- Go to https://brave.com/search/api/.
- Click Get started or Sign up and create a free Brave account (or log in if you already have one).
Choose your API plan
- Review the available plans:
- Free: 2,000 queries/month, basic web search.
- Pro: Enhanced features (local search, AI summaries, extra snippets).
- Select your preferred plan.
- Review the available plans:
Generate your API key
- Visit the Brave API developer dashboard.
- Create a new API key if one does not already appear for your account.
- Copy the generated API key. (You will need this key for the next steps.)
Fill in your API key in the FastMCP connection interface
- Click the "Install Now" button for the Brave Search MCP server.
- In the prompt labeled “Brave Search API Key,” paste in the API key you copied from the Brave dashboard.
Complete installation
- Follow any further on-screen instructions in FastMCP to finish setup.
Your Brave Search MCP server will now have the BRAVE_API_KEY environment variable configured correctly and be ready to use.
