(Optional) Decide Whether You Need a Custom Output Directory
- By default, generated mind maps will be stored in the system's temporary directory.
- If you wish to specify a custom output directory, you will need to set the
MARKMAP_DIRenvironment variable.
Locate the Path for Your Output Directory
- Determine the absolute path on your system where you want mind map files to be saved, e.g.,
/Users/yourname/Documents/markmaps.

Add the Environment Variable in the FastMCP Connection Interface
- Open the FastMCP interface.
- Click the "Install Now" button to start adding the server.
- When prompted for environment variables, fill in as follows:

MARKMAP_DIR - Value: the path you decided in step 2 (e.g.,
/Users/yourname/Documents/markmaps)

- If you do not wish to set a custom directory, you may leave this variable blank.
Save and Complete the Setup
- Confirm and save the configuration in FastMCP.
- The server will now use the specified directory to output generated mind map files.
Note: No API keys or tokens are required for Markmap MCP Server. The environment variable is fully optional and only used for changing the location of the saved mind map files.
