Integrates with Actual Budget to provide transaction filtering, spending breakdowns by category, monthly summaries with savings rates, and account balance history for budget analysis and financial insights.
Locate Your Actual Budget Data Directory
- Your Actual Budget data directory is where your personal budget data is stored. By default, this is usually at
~/.actual
on your system.
- If you have set up Actual Budget to use a custom data location, use that path instead.
(Optional) Set Up a Remote Actual Server (If Using)
- If you have deployed Actual Budget on a server (e.g., self-hosted or cloud), note its URL (such as
https://your-actual-server.com
).
Find or Set Your Actual Budget Password
- If you're connecting to a remote Actual server, you will need the password you configured for your Actual Budget instance.
- If you haven’t set up a password yet:
- Open your Actual Budget app or web interface.
- Go to your account or server settings and set a password.
- Make sure to remember or securely store this password.
Find Your Budget Sync ID (Optional)
- If you wish to connect to a specific budget stored in your Actual Budget, you may need its Sync ID.
- Open the Actual Budget web interface.
- Go to the budgets list or click into your budget and look for “Sync ID” or a unique identifier in the budget settings, sharing link, or URL.
Fill in the FastMCP Connection Interface
- Open the FastMCP connection setup and click “Install Now”.
- When prompted, fill in these values:
ACTUAL_DATA_DIR
: Path to your Actual Budget data directory (e.g., /Users/yourname/.actual
).
ACTUAL_SERVER_URL
: (If using a remote server) The full URL of your Actual Budget server (e.g., https://your-actual-server.com
).
ACTUAL_PASSWORD
: (If using a remote server) Your Actual Budget password.
ACTUAL_BUDGET_SYNC_ID
: (Optional) The Sync ID of the specific budget to use.
Save and Restart the Integration
- Complete the setup and confirm the changes.
- Restart Claude Desktop or your MCP-compatible client to activate the connection.
Note: If any values are unknown, refer to your Actual Budget app documentation or server settings for details. If you do not run a remote server, you may only need to provide the local data directory.
