Enables AI systems to search, retrieve, and analyze biomedical literature from PubMed for evidence-based research, citation generation, and data visualization
  1. Obtain an NCBI API Key

    • Go to the NCBI API Key management page: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/account/settings/.
    • Sign in with your NCBI account. Create one if you don’t already have an account.
    • Scroll to the “API Key Management” section.
    • Click the “Create an API Key” button.
    • Copy the generated API key. Keep this key secure.
  2. Fill in the API Key in the FastMCP Connection Interface

    • Locate your FastMCP connection interface for the PubMed MCP server.
    • Click the “Install Now” button to add required ENVs.
    • When prompted for environment variables, enter your NCBI API key in the NCBI_API_KEY field.
  3. (Optional) Adjust Additional Settings

    • If your setup requires other configuration ENV values (as listed in the readme, such as logging, transport mode, or authentication), add them as needed in the same interface.
  4. Save and Connect

    • Confirm and save your settings.
    • Test the connection to verify that the PubMed MCP server is properly accessing the PubMed database with your API key.

Summary:
You only need to provide the NCBI_API_KEY as an ENV. All ENV values must be filled in the FastMCP connection interface using the “Install Now” button.
