Log in to your Zotero account
- Go to Zotero Login and log in with your Zotero credentials.
Navigate to API Keys in Account Settings
- Visit https://www.zotero.org/settings/keys.
- This page will show your existing API keys and allow you to create new ones.
Create a New API Key
- Click “Create new private key.”
- Configure the permissions as required (read, write, etc.) for the server usage.
- Optionally, give the key a description for identification.
Copy the API Key
- After creation, your new API key will be displayed. Copy this key—this is your
ZOTERO_API_KEY. - Store it safely; you won’t be able to access it again!

Find Your Zotero Library ID
- Still on the API Keys page, look for your “UserID” in the upper right of the page under “Your Libraries.”
- This number is your
ZOTERO_LIBRARY_ID. - If accessing a group library, use the corresponding Group ID (found under the group's settings page).
(Optional) Specify the Library Type
- By default,
ZOTERO_LIBRARY_TYPEisuser. If you are accessing a group library, setZOTERO_LIBRARY_TYPEtogroup.

Fill in the FastMCP connection interface
- Use your
Install Nowbutton and, when prompted, fill in the following fields as described:ZOTERO_API_KEY: Paste the API key you generated.ZOTERO_LIBRARY_ID: Enter your User ID or Group ID.ZOTERO_LIBRARY_TYPE(optional): Enter eitheruser(default) orgroupas appropriate.
