- Go to the Discord Developer Portal
- Open your web browser and visit https://discord.com/developers/applications.
- Create a New Application
- Click the “New Application” button.
- Enter a name for your application and click “Create.”
- Create a Bot for Your Application
- In the application’s page, select the “Bot” tab in the left sidebar.
- Click “Add Bot,” then confirm by clicking “Yes, do it!”
- Copy the Bot Token
- Under the Bot section, click the “Reset Token” button if a token has not yet been generated, then click “Copy” to copy your bot token.
- Important: Keep this token secure and do not share it with anyone.
- Paste the Token in the FastMCP Connection Interface
- Go to the FastMCP "Install Now" button or the connection creation screen.
- Find the field labeled
DISCORD_TOKENand paste your copied bot token there.
- (Optional) Set a Default Discord Server
- If you want the server to operate within a specific Discord server by default, copy your desired server’s (guild’s) ID.
- Enter this value in the
DISCORD_GUILD_IDfield in the FastMCP connection interface.
Required Bot Permissions:
When adding your bot to a server, ensure it has the following permissions:
- Manage Server
- Manage Roles
- Manage Channels
- Manage Messages
- View Channels
- Send Messages
- Connect (for voice)
- Speak (for voice)
Note:
Do not share your bot token publicly. If it is ever compromised, return to the Developer Portal and regenerate a new token for your bot.
