Enables access to public government datasets from Socrata-powered portals through a unified tool for searching, querying, and analyzing data like budgets, crime statistics, and transportation information without requiring an API key.
  1. Identify the Data Portal URL You Want to Use
Decide which Socrata-powered open data portal you wish to access (e.g., https://data.cityofchicago.org, https://data.cityofnewyork.us, etc.). You can find a list of supported portals here: Socrata Open Data Portals.

  2. Open the FastMCP Connection Interface
In your MCP client (such as Claude Desktop), locate and open the interface for creating or editing a connection to a new MCP server.

  3. Add a New MCP Server
Use the "Install Now" button or similar interface control to add a new MCP server integration.

  4. Fill in the Required ENV Value
When prompted for environment variable configuration, fill in the value for:

    • DATA_PORTAL_URL
Set this to the desired portal’s full URL (e.g., https://data.cityofchicago.org).
  5. Complete the Connection Setup
Save the connection. Restart your client if necessary, so it recognizes the new environment variable.

Note:
No API key or token is needed for this integration—only the portal URL must be specified. You can change the portal URL at any time to connect to a different government data source.
