Enables direct image generation and editing through OpenAI's gpt-image-1 model with support for text prompts, file paths, and base64 encoded inputs for creative workflows and visual content creation.
  1. Sign in to Your OpenAI Account
Go to platform.openai.com and log in with your OpenAI credentials.

  2. Navigate to the API Keys Page
Open your profile menu at the top right and select "View API keys," or go directly to https://platform.openai.com/api-keys.

  3. Create a New API Key
Click the "Create new secret key" button. Give your key a recognizable name for future reference.

  4. Copy the OpenAI API Key
Once generated, the API key will be shown only once. Copy it immediately—this is the value you need for the FastMCP connection.

  5. Ensure Model Access
Verify your OpenAI account has access to the GPT-Image-1 model. If you are unable to use image generation features, check your OpenAI subscription or usage limits.

  6. Open the FastMCP Connection Interface
Click the "Install Now" button for the GPT-Image-1 MCP server in FastMCP.

  7. Paste the API Key
In the connection interface, you will see a field for OPENAI_API_KEY. Paste your copied OpenAI API key here.

  8. (Optional) Set Output Directory
If you want to customize where generated images are saved, fill in the GPT_IMAGE_OUTPUT_DIR field. Otherwise, leave it blank to use the default location.

  9. Save and Complete Installation
Click to save or confirm the configuration. Your GPT-Image-1 MCP server is now connected with the proper environment values.

Note:

  • The API key is sensitive; never share it publicly.
  • If your key is lost or exposed, immediately revoke it in the OpenAI dashboard and generate a new one.
