Create an Account at OpenRouter
- Go to https://openrouter.ai.
- Sign up for an account if you do not already have one.
Obtain Your OpenRouter API Key
- After logging in, navigate to your account or dashboard.
- Click on “API Keys” or a similar section.
- Generate a new API key if you don’t already have one.
- Copy the API key that starts with
sk-or-v1-....
Fill in the FastMCP Connection Interface
- In the FastMCP interface, find your ready-made button for adding ENVs (“Install Now”).
- When prompted, fill in the following values:
OPENROUTER_API_KEY: Paste the API key copied from your OpenRouter dashboard.- (Optional)
OPENROUTER_MODEL: If desired, specify a model. For most users, start withgoogle/gemini-2.0-flash-exp:free(the free model). You may leave this blank to use the default.
Save and Apply
- Save your configuration in FastMCP.
- Your integration is now ready to go! No further installation or configuration is required.
Troubleshooting Tips
- If you see an error about the API key, double-check that it is complete and starts with
sk-or-v1-. - To explore different models or advanced options, visit openrouter.ai or check your models list under your account.

Keep your API key secret. Do not share it publicly.
